Inclusively Support Our First Responders

To: Sen. Kane, Rep. Krueger

From: A verified voter in Aston, PA

July 26

I hope you're doing well and having a little time to breathe this summer. I'm writing not just as a constituent, but as someone who truly values your friendship and support—especially when you helped me run for school board in Penn-Delco. That meant so much to me, and I’ve never forgotten it. I wanted to share something that’s been bothering me here in Aston. Once again, the township is promoting police trading cards, many showing officers in full military-style gear. As a mom of three boys and someone who’s worked in public education and community spaces for years, I’m really uncomfortable with the message this sends to kids. It doesn’t feel like it’s about safety—it feels like it’s about power and fear. I was thinking: instead of this kind of promotion, what if we did something that actually brings the community together? Would your office consider helping host a Touch-a-Truck event—something fun and inclusive, with police, firefighters, EMTs, public works, construction vehicles, and maybe even SEPTA or sanitation trucks? Something where kids can climb, explore, and connect with helpers in a positive, hands-on way? You’ve always modeled a better way to lead—one based in care, connection, and justice. A Touch-a-Truck could reflect that spirit, and I know families here would respond to it. Let me know what you think. And thank you, truly, for always standing up for people like me.
