Concern Over Presidential Threats and Congressional Inaction

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

January 14

I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent. I want to know why you—and Congress as a whole—are not taking action to stop Donald Trump from repeatedly threatening other countries, escalating conflicts, and behaving in ways that put both Americans and global stability at risk. It is not normal, acceptable, or safe for a president to openly antagonize foreign nations, flirt with war, or make reckless statements that could have real-world consequences for American lives. These actions increase the risk of international conflict, economic instability, and retaliation—all of which directly affect your constituents. Your job is not to protect a political figure. Your job is to protect the people you represent and to uphold the Constitution. When a president acts erratically or dangerously, Congress is supposed to serve as a check on that power. Right now, it appears you are choosing silence instead. Why aren’t you using your authority to rein in these actions? Why aren’t you publicly condemning behavior that threatens peace and security? Why should your constituents believe you are acting in their best interests? I expect a clear response explaining what steps you are taking—or why you have chosen not to act—while the country and the world face the consequences of this behavior. Silence is a decision. Inaction is a choice. And voters are watching.
