An Open Letter
To: Pres. Biden
From: A constituent in Vancouver, WA
August 27
The amount of financial and political support the U.S. has been pouring into the state of Israel is a matter of serious concern. The way Israel uses this support to wage war against innocent Palestinian civilians is more worrying, and it's not hard to understand why so many see your stance as deplorably complicit. It seems that our country, long considered a beacon of hope and human rights, is now firmly backing actions that are equivalent to murder, torture, and developmental destruction.
The Palestinians deserve nothing less than full autonomy over their land, over their resources, and over their destiny. Their sufferings are no less important than the sufferings of any other human population. By standing on the side of the oppressor, our nation shares the guilt of their oppression, and history will not be kind to us for it. I urge you to reflect upon these innocent lives lost and upended, to empathize with their plight and pain, and to reconsider your support of such morally reprehensible actions.
In your position of power and influence, you have an opportunity to contribute positively towards peace. It would be a disservice to democracy and humanity if you continue to support policies that further exacerbate an already grave humanitarian crisis. Re-examine the implications of your stance on this issue. Remember, as a representative of the people, it is your duty to uphold human rights and demonstrate empathy for all, not just the privileged.
I urge you to reevaluate your stance on this critical matter. Use your role to advocate for peace, to discourage violence, and to stop the bloodshed. Show the world what American values truly stand for. Stand up for the defenseless. Stand up for what is right. Stand up for humanity.
