Nine Deaths, Zero Cameras: Why ICE Has to Go I’m a constituent, and I’m writing to ask you to do one specific thing: cosponsor legislation to disband ICE and replace it with an immigration enforcement system that answers to the Constitution. Here’s why I’m not asking for reform. I’ve watched reform get promised and fail, over and over, in real time. After ICE killed a mother of three in Minneapolis in January, the Department of Homeland Security promised body cameras would be rapidly deployed nationwide to prevent it happening again. Five months later, ICE killed a father of a three-year-old in Maine and a business owner in Houston within the same week. Neither agent had a working camera. In Maine, the agent had one on his body and used it only as a radio mic. That is not a funding delay. That is an agency that will not be watched. And it isn’t just shootings. A federal judge appointed by President Trump ruled that ICE likely ran an unconstitutional racial profiling operation against Black and Latino Minnesotans. Federal courts have separately banned ICE from making warrantless arrests. A medical human rights investigation documented 412 incidents of crowd-control weapons misused against protesters and journalists in a single year, causing blindings and brain injuries. I don’t need another oversight hearing or another promise of retraining. I need to know where you stand. Will you cosponsor legislation to disband ICE? Please have your office respond and let me know your position.
