I'm calling on you to support legislation to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The agency has become a threat to constitutional rights and public safety.
Between June 2025 and early 2026, federal immigration agents arrested over 300 U.S. citizens during enforcement sweeps, charging them with crimes like assaulting officers. More than a third of these prosecutions collapsed when video evidence debunked agents' statements. In Chicago alone, prosecutors dropped charges in at least 75 of 109 arrests. This failure rate is staggering in a federal system where prosecutors typically win over 90% of cases.
The pattern reveals systematic abuse. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino told agents to "arrest as many people that touch you as you want." Marine Corps veteran Alejandro Orellana was arrested in a televised raid for distributing water to protesters, then released when prosecutors found no evidence. Julian Pecora Cardenas suffered a concussion during his arrest for livestreaming agents, only to have charges dropped days later when his own video proved his innocence.
These illegal arrests cost people their jobs, their savings, and their willingness to exercise First Amendment rights. ICE and Border Patrol have shown they cannot operate within constitutional bounds. The solution is abolition and replacement with an agency that respects civil liberties.
