An Open Letter
To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Kamlager-Dove
From: A constituent in Culver City, CA
November 4
I urge you to use Congress's full constitutional authority to provide oversight, demand accountability, and protect the rights and laws of the American people. If Democrats secure control of the House and Senate, I expect more than statements of concern. I expect decisive action: 1. Investigations, Oversight, Appointments, and Impeachment Use committees, hearings, subpoenas, and investigations to examine corruption, conflicts of interest, abuses of executive power, and misuse of federal agencies. Use Senate confirmation authority responsibly and oppose nominees who lack independence, qualifications, or a commitment to the rule of law. Where substantial evidence warrants it, pursue impeachment. The difficulty of securing a two-thirds Senate vote for removal should not prevent Congress from fulfilling its constitutional responsibility. Impeachment establishes accountability and defends constitutional limits on presidential power. 2. Challenge Unlawful Executive Actions and Protect Established Rights Use every available legislative, investigative, appropriations, and legal tool to challenge unlawful executive actions and ensure the administration follows federal law. Protect congressionally appropriated funding from unlawful withholding or redirection. Defend rights and protections established by law. Do not allow statutory obligations to be disregarded simply because the administration disagrees with them. Defend the separation of powers and hold the executive branch accountable when it exceeds its authority. 3. Transparency and Accountability Regarding the Epstein Files Continue investigating the handling and release of Epstein-related records. Demand transparency about withheld documents, redactions, and the justification for nondisclosure. Release all records that can lawfully be made public while protecting victims' identities and privacy. Investigate improper withholding, preferential treatment, and interference with disclosure. This must not be partisan. No one should be shielded from scrutiny because of wealth, political influence, or personal connections. As a constituent, I expect action, not just statements. I understand presidential vetoes and the need for bipartisan support create limitations. However, Congress has significant independent powers that do not require presidential approval. I expect those powers to be exercised. Do not abandon accountability because removal may be difficult or politically inconvenient. I want a Congress willing to investigate, subpoena, challenge, litigate, legislate, and impeach when warranted. Your responsibility is to the Constitution and the American people, not to protecting a political party or powerful individuals. Please communicate what specific actions you intend to take to advance these priorities.
