Why Are You Remaining Silent?

To: Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

May 29

I am writing to ask why you continue to remain silent while the Trump administration engages in actions that many Americans view as deeply troubling and potentially corrupt. Why are you allowing taxpayer dollars to be diverted to foreign interests while Americans struggle with rising costs at home? Why are you not speaking out against lawsuits that appear politically motivated and place additional strain on our already overburdened judicial system? Why are you not demanding accountability and congressional oversight regarding continued military actions involving Iran? Your oath was to the Constitution and to the people you represent, not to any one individual or political movement. Yet your silence suggests either indifference or complicity. If you disagree with these actions, where is your public opposition? If you support them, then explain why to your constituents. Many voters are watching elected officials closely during this moment. Remaining silent while serious concerns about government conduct, spending, and the rule of law are being raised is not leadership. It is avoidance. I want a direct answer. Do you believe Congress should exercise meaningful oversight of the executive branch regardless of who occupies the White House? If so, what specific actions have you taken to hold this administration accountable? History remembers those who spoke up when it mattered and those who chose silence. I urge you to stand up for your constituents, defend the Constitution, and provide real accountability. I look forward to your response.
