Support the Keeping All Students Safe Act (S.3448 / H.R.6617)

To: Rep. Norcross, Sen. Kim, Sen. Booker

From: A constituent in Audubon, NJ

October 2

I am a parent of an autistic child, and I urge you to co-sponsor and support S.3448, the Keeping All Students Safe Act. My son was restrained at school when he was only six years old. No parent should have to fear that a child’s distress, disability, or inability to communicate will be met with restraint or seclusion instead of support and de-escalation. Children with disabilities are especially vulnerable in school settings. Educators need appropriate training in prevention, de-escalation, regulation, and positive behavioral supports so that restraint is never used as a substitute for understanding a child’s needs. Please support S.3448 and help ensure that students are treated with dignity and kept safe at school. Thank you.
