Demand Action: DOJ ‘Anti-Weaponization Fund’ Is an Abuse of Taxpayer Dollars
To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Gooden
From: A verified voter in Heartland, TX

I am writing as a constituent and a deeply concerned American citizen to demand that you take immediate and decisive action against the Trump administration’s newly announced $1.7 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” as reported by the Associated Press and PBS NewsHour on May 18, 2026. This fund, announced by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, was created through the resolution of a personal lawsuit filed by President Trump against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns. Rather than resolving this matter through normal legal channels subject to judicial review, the administration has structured this settlement specifically to bypass court oversight — using $1.7 billion in taxpayer dollars to fund a pool of money intended to compensate Trump allies and political supporters. This is not governance. This is corruption in plain sight. As Rep. Jamie Raskin correctly stated, this arrangement amounts to a “racket designed to take $1.7 billion of taxpayer dollars out of the Treasury” and funnel it into a slush fund to reward those loyal to the President — including, potentially, individuals convicted of violent crimes related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol. I am outraged by the following specific concerns: • Taxpayer funds are being redirected to benefit a sitting president’s personal and political interests. • The fund is deliberately structured to avoid judicial review and democratic accountability. • It sets a dangerous precedent that the executive branch can use the Department of Justice as a personal financial instrument. • Government watchdogs and ethics organizations — including Democracy Forward — have already called this arrangement a “sham” and pledged to fight it. The Constitution entrusts Congress with the power of the purse. It is your sworn duty to protect American citizens from exactly this kind of executive overreach and abuse of public funds. A group of 93 members of Congress has already filed a legal brief challenging this arrangement — I urge you to join that effort and to use every legislative and oversight tool at your disposal. The American people are watching. We expect you to stand on the right side of history and defend the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the integrity of our public institutions. Please do not remain silent on this matter. I respectfully demand: 1. A public statement condemning the creation of this fund. 2. Your active support for congressional challenges to this settlement. 3. Immediate hearings on the DOJ’s role in structuring a settlement that bypasses judicial oversight. 4. Legislation, if necessary, to prohibit the use of federal funds to settle personal lawsuits filed by sitting presidents. Thank you for your service to this nation. I trust you will act with the courage and integrity this moment demands.
