Why Are You Silent on Trump’s Purge of Independent Oversight?

As a concerned constituent, I am writing to express my deep alarm at the growing pattern of firings and removals of independent oversight officials and high-ranking military leaders under the current administration. The recent dismissal of top generals and nonpartisan watchdogs raises serious questions about the integrity and transparency of our government. Independent oversight is one of the fundamental safeguards in our democracy. When those charged with holding our leaders accountable are systematically removed, we risk enabling unchecked power and potential corruption. This is not a partisan concern—it is a constitutional one. Regardless of political affiliation, every American deserves a government that is subject to scrutiny and adheres to the rule of law. I am particularly troubled by the lack of public response from elected officials such as yourself. Your silence, and the silence of others in Congress, is deeply concerning at a time when the erosion of democratic norms appears to be accelerating. The American people need their representatives to speak out—not just when it is politically convenient, but when the foundational principles of our democracy are at stake. What are you doing to address these issues? Why have you not publicly condemned the administration’s actions that threaten the independence of our military and oversight institutions? I urge you to take a clear and courageous stand in defense of democratic accountability. Your constituents are watching—and history will judge the leaders who stood up to abuse of power and those who remained silent.
