I am writing to express my grave concern and firm opposition to the escalating conflict with Iran, which will likely be known in the history books as "Operation Epic Failure." I urge you to take immediate action to end this unauthorized war by supporting a renewed War Powers Resolution and voting against any further military funding for this operation.
The most devastating cost of this conflict is the tragic loss of American life. The deaths of six U.S. service members in Kuwait—and the dozens more wounded across Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE—are an unacceptable price to pay for a war that has not been debated or authorized by the people’s representatives in Congress.
Beyond the human toll, the financial consequences of this conflict are already catastrophic:
-- Asset Destruction: In just the first week, Iranian retaliatory strikes have destroyed approximately $1.9 billion in critical U.S. military equipment, including a $1.1 billion early warning radar in Qatar and advanced THAAD components in the UAE.
-- Daily Costs: The Pentagon is spending an estimated $60 million per day to sustain this conflict, a "burn rate" that is simply unsustainable.
-- Economic Impact: The spike in energy prices and market volatility caused by this war acts as a direct tax on every American family.
While I am aware of the recent votes on March 4th and 5th regarding the War Powers Resolution, I urge you to reconsider your position. Under the Constitution, the power to declare war rests solely with Congress. No President should be allowed to conduct an open-ended military campaign without your explicit authorization.
Furthermore, the Pentagon is reportedly requesting a $50 billion supplemental funding package to replenish munitions and replace destroyed infrastructure. I demand that you vote NO on this request. Funding this operation is equivalent to endorsing an illegal "forever war" that we cannot afford and that the American public does not want.
Please honor your oath to the Constitution. Reassert your War Powers, deny this supplemental funding, and demand a diplomatic path to peace before more American blood and treasure are wasted.
