Demand Accountability for DHS Leadership and Unlawful Deportation Practices

To: Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Arnold, MD

February 25

I am writing to demand immediate accountability for Secretary Kristi Noem's leadership failures at the Department of Homeland Security and the unlawful deportation practices that have violated due process rights of individuals in our communities. Recent federal court rulings have found the Trump administration's deportation policies to third countries unlawful. Federal Judge Murphy specifically ruled against these practices, yet they continued under Secretary Noem's watch. These are not minor administrative errors but fundamental violations of legal protections that have torn families apart and damaged America's standing as a nation of laws. Secretary Noem must be removed from her position and held financially accountable for misuse of taxpayer funds. Reports of excessive personal expenses including hair styling, cosmetic procedures, and travel costs represent an abuse of public resources during a time when DHS should be focused on lawful, humane immigration enforcement. I expect a full audit of her expenditures and reimbursement to taxpayers for any inappropriate charges. The administration must take responsibility for the harm caused by illegal deportations and detentions. Individuals wrongfully deported or detained deserve restitution, and the costs should not fall on taxpayers who did not authorize these unlawful actions. Those responsible for ordering and executing illegal deportations must face consequences. I urge you to support legislation that provides remedies for those harmed by unlawful immigration enforcement, including funding to facilitate the return of wrongfully deported individuals and compensation for illegal detention. Additionally, I ask that you call for Inspector General investigations into DHS leadership spending and demand Secretary Noem's resignation. Our immigration system requires reform that respects both the rule of law and human dignity. The current approach has failed on both counts. I expect you to take a clear public position on these accountability measures and work to prevent future abuses.
