Sign AB 2186 — Do Not Tax the Repair. Deadline: September 30, 2026: I am urging you to sign AB 2186 before September 30, 2026. Reparations payments are meant to repair harm, not be taxed back by the state that caused the harm. AB 2186 ensures that future reparations payments are exempt from California state income tax. This is the minimum standard of integrity: if California acknowledges the debt, it cannot simultaneously tax the repair. The Bureau for Descendants of American Slavery is being built.
