I urge you to protect and expand Social Security by scrapping the cap on Social Security contributions and requiring millionaires and billionaires to pay their fair share into the system year-round.
Social Security is an earned benefit that workers pay into throughout their working lives. It provides essential income for seniors, people with disabilities, surviving spouses, children, and families in every state and congressional district. Congress should strengthen this promise, not cut it.
The 2026 Social Security Trustees Report makes clear that Congress must act. The Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund is projected to pay full scheduled benefits until late 2032, after which it can pay 87% of benefits for the next 25 years, 80% over the next 50 years, and around 76% of scheduled benefits for the next 75 years.
That shortfall should not be used as an excuse to cut earned benefits. The solution is to bring more revenue into Social Security by making the wealthy contribute more fairly. Right now, wages above $184,500 are exempt from Social Security contributions in 2026. That means millionaires stop paying into Social Security early in the year while most workers contribute all year long.
Speaker Mike Johnson has already said he plans to “adjust and fix” Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid next year. I strongly oppose any plan to cut, privatize, means-test, or weaken Social Security benefits. Congress should reject closed-door schemes that put earned benefits at risk.
Please support legislation to scrap the cap on Social Security contributions, make millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share, and protect and expand Social Security for current and future generations.
