Oppose and amend AB 1157

To: Gov. Newsom, Asm. Zbur, Sen. Allen

From: A verified voter in Los Angeles, CA

April 25

I’m writing to ask you to oppose AB 1157. While the housing crisis in California is dire, rent control has been consistently shown to chill the construction of desperately needed housing. Current law is adequate for controlling predatory rent increases that might disadvantage long tenured residents. Instead, please work to amend the bill to merely remove the current 2030 sunset for statewide rent control, and also make the provisions to apply to single family homes as well. This ensures that developers will view apartments on equal footing as single family residents when deciding which to construct. Again, please oppose AB 1157.
