An Open Letter

To: Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden, Rep. Chavez-DeRemer

From: A constituent in Lake Oswego, OR

May 11

This legislation would nullify Executive Order 14027, which established a climate change support office to better incorporate climate considerations into diplomacy and foreign policy initiatives. While views may differ on the urgency of addressing climate change, repudiating efforts to consider its impacts could undermine America's global standing and leadership on a critical issue with wide-ranging geopolitical implications. Reasoned debate is warranted, but this abrupt reversal seems misguided and detrimental to long-term strategic objectives. I encourage maintaining a pragmatic, forward-looking approach that positions America as a responsible stakeholder in cooperative solutions to shared global challenges.
