Hold Bisignano, Vought, and Kupor Accountable

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

November 3

I am writing to express my outrage over the continued politicization of our federal government and the apparent disregard for the laws and ethical standards that government officials are obligated to uphold. Recent reports that Social Security Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano used official agency communications to praise Donald Trump, while the IRS sent emails promoting Trump’s tax legislation just days before the midterm elections, are deeply troubling. We have something called the Hatch Act. It exists to prevent federal employees and officials from using their government positions, resources, and authority to influence partisan elections. Social Security and the IRS belong to the American people, not to Donald Trump or any political administration. Bisignano, Russell Vought, and Scott Kupor must be held accountable for their roles in the continued politicization of our federal government and the erosion of the safeguards intended to protect our institutions. I am asking you directly to demand an independent investigation into whether these communications violated the Hatch Act, demand answers about who authorized them, and support meaningful congressional oversight. If federal officials are breaking the law or abusing their authority, there must be consequences, regardless of their political connections. What concerns me just as much as these actions is the apparent silence and lack of accountability from Congress. How many more laws, ethical standards, and democratic safeguards must be undermined before elected representatives decide to act? Your constituents did not elect you to sit on the sidelines. They elected you to represent us, defend the rule of law, and hold those in power accountable. I do not know whether you believe your political future no longer depends on the people you represent, but I can assure you that people are watching and will remember who stood up and who remained silent. Stop prioritizing political loyalty over your constitutional responsibilities. Stop bowing down to this administration and start standing up for the American people. The law must mean something. Accountability must mean something. It is time to act.
