I’m writing to express strong opposition to the Texas Legislature using a special session to redraw legislative districts. Redistricting is not constitutionally scheduled right now—and if the party in power didn’t get it right last time, that’s on them. They don’t get to keep adjusting the map until it produces the outcome they want.
Let’s be clear: this is gerrymandering, not redistricting. It’s a deliberate effort to silence specific voices—particularly in minority-based districts—and hold onto power by manipulating the process. That’s not democracy. That’s cheating.
Communities like Killeen have already been chopped up, lumped into districts that don’t reflect who we are, and stuck with representation that doesn’t even know our community. It’s no wonder so many Texans feel hopeless and disengaged. The system has been rigged for years to make their votes meaningless—and this move just makes it worse.
You are supposed to represent the people. Instead, this Legislature is trying to choose its voters rather than letting the voters choose their representatives. That’s a complete betrayal of your constitutional duty.
This special session should be focused on real needs—public safety, flood preparedness, early warning systems, infrastructure, and coordination with federal and local agencies. But instead, the priority is political manipulation. It’s disgraceful.
I’m paying attention. I may not expect you to listen, but I will not be silent. Stop trying to erase the voices of Texans. Do your job—and serve the public, not your party’s agenda.
