I am writing to express my deep concern regarding recent statements from former President Trump and his administration suggesting the possibility of deporting U.S. citizens. Such rhetoric raises serious constitutional and legal questions, particularly in relation to the fundamental rights guaranteed to all American citizens.
As a duly elected representative, you have taken an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. It is imperative that our government stands firm against any attempt to erode or circumvent constitutional protections, including due process and the right to remain in one’s country of citizenship.
The gravity of this issue is highlighted by troubling statements made in the White House briefing room:
- On **April 14, 2025**, during a meeting with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, Trump implied that “homegrown criminals” could be sent to foreign prisons, suggesting the deportation of American citizens.
- On **April 23, 2025**, a federal judge accused the administration of obstructing the truth about wrongful deportations, with Trump stating that he wanted to bypass due process to expedite removals.
- On **April 15, 2025**, Trump reiterated that he was “studying the laws” to determine whether American citizens convicted of violent crimes could be sent to foreign prisons.
These statements have sparked legal and constitutional debates, as experts overwhelmingly agree that deporting U.S. citizens is unconstitutional. The idea of stripping Americans of their rights and citizenship without due process is alarming and unacceptable.
I urge you to publicly reaffirm your commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of all Americans and to take any necessary legislative or legal action to ensure that no U.S. citizen is wrongly threatened with deportation. I also ask for transparency regarding any discussions or proposals that could undermine these rights.
As your constituent, I would appreciate a response outlining your stance on this issue and any actions you plan to take to defend the rights of American citizens.
