I am writing to urge you to support the Alaska Gas Pipeline Project and help ensure that the Legislature provides the fiscal certainty and policy framework needed to move this project forward without delay.
This project represents a transformational opportunity for Alaska. It is projected to generate approximately $800 million annually in state revenue through taxes, royalties, and new production activity, while creating an estimated $144 billion in economic activity over the life of the project. It would also support roughly 12,000 construction jobs and up to 1,000 permanent operational jobs.
Just as importantly, this project is critical to Alaska’s long term energy security. Without action, Alaska could eventually face the unacceptable reality of importing natural gas under expensive long term contracts while losing the opportunity to develop and export our own resources. That would mean fewer jobs, higher energy costs, and reduced economic independence for our state.
I appreciate that legislators must carefully evaluate major projects, but this proposal is now primarily privately driven, with private partners carrying the financial risk and operational responsibility. The project already has major producer alignment, key permits in place, engineering and procurement agreements underway, and substantial LNG market interest from Pacific Rim buyers.
Timing matters. Delays risk missing critical construction windows, increasing costs, and losing Alaska’s competitive position in global LNG markets. Alaska has a rare opportunity to strengthen its economy, create jobs, secure affordable energy, and reinforce its strategic importance as a reliable energy supplier.
Please support timely legislative action to help move this project forward.
Thank you for your service to Alaska and for considering my perspective.
