The recent proposals from House Republicans to cut Medicaid funding and impose stricter work requirements are deeply concerning. Medicaid provides essential healthcare coverage to over 80 million low-income Americans, including children, pregnant women, people with disabilities, and seniors. Cutting this vital program would strip millions of their access to necessary medical care and increase financial hardship. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the proposed changes would result in 8.6 million fewer people having health insurance coverage. This would have devastating impacts on some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege dependent on employment status or income level. Instead of slashing funding and making the program harder to access, we should be working to strengthen and expand Medicaid to ensure all Americans can receive affordable, quality healthcare. The proposed cuts are misguided and will only serve to increase hardship and suffering. I urge you to reject these harmful measures and prioritize protecting and improving Medicaid for the well-being of our constituents and communities.
