Chairman Comer must publicly reaffirm that Pam Bondi's April 14 deposition will proceed and pursue contempt charges if she refuses to appear. The Department of Justice is attempting to shield her by claiming she no longer needs to testify since leaving office, but the bipartisan subpoena issued last month was directed at Bondi as an individual, not as a title holder.
Five Republicans joined Democrats in issuing this subpoena because Bondi oversaw the release of investigative files related to Jeffrey Epstein during her tenure. As Rep. Nancy Mace stated, Bondi cannot escape accountability by leaving office. Her departure does not eliminate her obligation to testify.
The committee has authority to compel testimony through Bondi's personal counsel. Allowing her to evade this deposition would set a dangerous precedent that any official can dodge congressional oversight simply by resigning. This bipartisan investigation demands answers, and Bondi must be held to the same standard as any other witness.
