No State Resident Should Profit from Attacking Democracy I am writing with deep concern about the Trump administration's $1.776 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund," created through the Department of Justice. This fund makes taxpayer money available to individuals who claim political targeting — including people convicted or charged in connection with the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol. States are already pushing back. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on May 27, 2026 that California will pursue a 100% state income tax on any resident who receives payments from this fund. New York legislators have introduced identical legislation. I urge you to introduce or support similar legislation in our state. A 100% state income tax on these payments would ensure that no resident profits from what is widely regarded as a politically motivated use of public funds. This is a legal, direct action our state can take to stand for accountability and the rule of law. Please act on this. I am watching, and I will remember.
