This is a big deal and it deserves a lot more attention. A federal whistleblower is sounding the alarm about a nationwide DHS operation called the “Unlawful Voter Initiative.” According to the disclosure, hundreds of employees at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services have been assigned to search for supposed noncitizen voters. Officers are expected to review at least 40 people every day, using DHS data that employees themselves are warning contain bad naturalization dates, duplicate records and other errors. The whistleblower says employees have also been directed to use people’s personal information, including dates of birth and portions of Social Security numbers, to access state voter websites. That’s a problem because those websites require whoever is accessing the record to certify that they are the voter or have permission from the voter. Employees raised concerns that what they were being told to violate state law. They were told to keep doing it anyway. It gets worse. The disclosure says officers may also be required to create federal law enforcement records on people flagged by the system even when the information being used is questionable. That includes naturalized U.S. citizens. Someone wrongly flagged could then be referred to Homeland Security Investigations without ever knowing they were flagged or getting a chance to correct the bad information. This is why using questionable data to investigate voters should concern everyone. Bad data doesn’t just create a bad spreadsheet. It can put an American citizen into a federal law enforcement system. Do something to stop these outrageous attempts to curb and intimidate voters never mind what it is endangering any allowing them access to personal information
