I’m reaching out about the unprecedented surge in homelessness rates. Each week, 17,500 Americans are losing housing and overwhelming response systems. President Trump’s FY2027 budget proposal seeks changes and cuts that would create further catastrophic impacts in communities nationwide. I urge you to reject this proposal and instead champion investment in critical programs that address the housing needs of elderly and low-income households.
Specifically, I urge you to support the following for FY2027:
- Allocate $5.1 billion to the Homeless Assistance Grants Account, which includes the Continuum of Care (CoC) and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) programs, to cover increased renewal demand
- Allocate $45.6 billion to the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Account to cover the cost of renewing assistance and adding new incremental vouchers;
- Allocate $1.85 billion to HUD’s Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program to support this vulnerable population.
