I am a constituent from Colorado, and I am writing to urge you to oppose any further funding increases for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and to work to restrict or condition its funding in light of the agency’s ongoing pattern of overreach. Over the past several years, ICE has repeatedly demonstrated that it is willing to stretch or disregard the boundaries of its mission and its authority. Reports of aggressive enforcement tactics, inadequate accountability, and operations that unnecessarily harm families and communities have undermined public trust and raised serious civil liberties concerns. An agency with such sweeping powers must be held to the highest standards; at present, ICE has not earned that level of confidence. Continuing to expand or even maintain current funding levels without meaningful structural reform sends the wrong message. It signals that Congress is willing to tolerate conduct that is misaligned with constitutional principles, due process, and basic standards of proportionality and oversight. At a minimum, any federal funding should be contingent on clear, enforceable reforms, robust transparency requirements, and credible mechanisms for accountability. I urge you to use your position to: • Oppose new or expanded appropriations for ICE; • Support efforts to condition or reduce funding until concrete reforms are implemented; and • Advocate for immigration enforcement approaches that are consistent with the rule of law, human dignity, and community safety. I appreciate your attention to this matter and expect you, as my representative, to exercise strong oversight and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
