Urge Bipartisan Compromise to End Shutdown and Protect Critical Programs
To: Sen. Schiff, Sen. Padilla, Rep. Chu
From: A constituent in Pasadena, CA
November 5, 2025
As the government shutdown enters its 36th day, becoming the longest in U.S. history, I urge you to take immediate action to reopen the government through bipartisan compromise. The ongoing impasse is causing significant harm to federal workers, vital programs, and our nation's economy.
Senate Democrats have proposed a potential compromise involving the extension of enhanced Obamacare subsidies with some reforms. I strongly support this approach as it addresses critical healthcare needs while offering room for negotiation. The Affordable Care Act has provided essential coverage to millions of Americans, and we must protect and strengthen this program.
The shutdown's impact extends far beyond politics. Federal workers are facing financial hardship, food aid programs are at risk, and airport operations are strained. Additionally, crucial scientific research at NASA is being delayed or suspended, potentially setting back important discoveries and technological advancements that benefit our nation and the world.
Recent election results in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City demonstrate that voters are frustrated with the ongoing gridlock. Even President Trump has acknowledged that Republicans are being "killed" politically due to the shutdown. It's clear that the American people want their representatives to find common ground and govern effectively.
I implore you to meet with Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, who have repeatedly requested discussions with the President. It's time to set aside partisan differences and work towards a solution that reopens the government, protects vital programs like the Affordable Care Act, and ensures the continuation of critical scientific research at NASA.
The consequences of inaction are severe and far-reaching. Every day the shutdown continues, more Americans suffer. Please act now to end this impasse through bipartisan cooperation and responsible governance. Our nation's stability, progress, and the well-being of your constituents depend on your leadership in this critical moment.
