“You can’t just have compassion for the criminal. You also have to have justice, too. Which is why I think that a properly rooted Christian moral order is such an important part of the future of our country.”
JD Vance said, with a straight face.
The next week+ is going to challenge our collective sanity.
Things we need to keep top of mind as we do our civic duty by voting…
The GOP may consider itself the party of virtue, patriotism, and fealty to the law.
But most all of their actions in the pursuit of political power prove that any such claims are transitory. Fungible. Adaptable. Lightly held. And non-existent when it comes time to run for reelection.
Christian beliefs get twisted beyond recognition to justify decidedly un-Christian actions.
Support for our justice system gets corrupted in the pursuit of political, and personal, ideology. Or to satisfy personal grievance.
Welfare of we the people. The excuse always used to legitimize heinous actions we have shown time and again that we do not support.
(Same with the cynical cry of ‘national security’ every time the prez wants to launch a new HGTV project.)
Alliances with adversaries that we know wish us harm, but made in the pursuit of profits. Or in a cynical and democracy-adverse quest for dominance. Which is definitely not MAGA.
And the sad thing is, these destructive forces use the very systems given to them by our American freedoms. The very freedoms they wish to deprive our society at large of. The freedom to destroy the hand that has fed you.
The motto might as well be ‘freedoms for me but not for thee.’
So when one side tries to convince us that the other side is a bunch of commies or socialists or deviants or threats to the country, please look around and see why they’re attacking so hard instead of touting all the great things they keep telling us they have done.
Smoke and mirrors and dirty politics y’all. Don’t get fooled again.
Because the Emperor and all his courtiers stand buck naked. And we see them.
VOTE!!!
