The authoritarian right is not a passing phase — it is a coordinated movement, and it needs a coordinated response. As Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor argue in their new work, what we're witnessing is a convergence of tech oligarchs, religious extremists, and political entrepreneurs who are actively accelerating societal breakdown while positioning themselves to profit from the wreckage. The answer isn't to moderate our way through this. It's to build a politics that directly confronts concentrated wealth and power.
Zohran Mamdani's successful New York mayoral campaign proved this is winnable. He built a broad coalition by focusing on material concerns and celebrating difference rather than running from it. That's the model. Progressive politics rooted in community solidarity, genuine wealth redistribution, and inclusive representation doesn't just counter the right's dystopian vision — it replaces it with something people actually want to live in. I want to see you champion exactly that: policies that break up dangerous concentrations of wealth, protect vulnerable communities from state violence, and invest in the neighbourhoods that reactionary politics has spent decades hollowing out.
