Vote NO on SB 2!

To: Gov. Abbott, Rep. Harris Davila, Sen. Schwertner, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

April 14

Governor Abbott’s voucher scheme—Senate Bill 2 (SB 2)—isn’t just bad for Texas public schools, it’s a tax hike in disguise. SB 2 would drain $5 billion from our public schools by 2030, forcing local communities to raise property taxes just to keep schools open. Texans know better. A recent poll shows 86% of Texans oppose voucher schemes that drive up property taxes. Yet some lawmakers are still pushing this harmful taxpayer-funded giveaway to private schools. Here’s why SB 2 is NOT what Texans want: • SB 2 is a backdoor tax hike. It would strip $5 billion from Texas public schools by 2030, forcing local communities to raise property taxes just to keep schools open. • Texans overwhelmingly oppose voucher schemes that take money from public schools and hand it to unaccountable private institutions. • SB 2 isn’t about “school choice”—it’s about subsidizing private school tuition for wealthy families while public schools suffer. • Private schools aren’t held to the same standards as public schools but would get public money under SB 2. • Every dollar spent on vouchers is a dollar taken away from Texas public school students and teachers. Texans want better public schools, not giveaways to private schools. Vote no on SB2!
