The U.S. Department of Education's SAVE Plan offers meaningful relief for federal student loan borrowers, including lower monthly payments and quicker debt forgiveness for those with smaller balances. As a public service worker, I am particularly invested in protecting the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program which allows non-profit and government employees to have their remaining debt cleared after 10 years of payments. However, the current administrative forbearance for SAVE borrowers is preventing them from making qualifying PSLF payments during this period. I urge you to take action to safeguard the SAVE Plan and ensure that public service workers enrolled in it can continue making progress towards PSLF forgiveness. The generous terms of SAVE provide critical affordability for those dedicating their careers to serving the public good. Millions of borrowers, including many of your constituents, are relying on this program to manage their student debt burden responsibly. Protecting SAVE upholds our commitment to supporting the dedicated public service workforce.
