Oppose H.R. 1: the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act"

To: Sen. McCormick, Rep. Smucker, Sen. Fetterman

From: A constituent in Lititz, PA

July 2

The recently passed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (H.R. 1) is a devastating piece of legislation that prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthy over the needs of working families and communities. This bill slashes funding for vital government programs that millions of Americans rely on, including deep cuts to Medicaid and harsh new work requirements, tripling the budget for ICE and Trump's mass deportation efforts, unprecedented funding cuts to SNAP (food stamps), and widespread rollbacks of clean energy tax incentives and climate protections. Furthermore, it restricts access to affordable healthcare by cutting funding for Planned Parenthood's clinical care services and gender-affirming care under Medicaid and CHIP. The bill also makes harmful changes to student loan access, protections, and repayment options, making higher education less attainable. Additionally, it defunds the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by nearly 70%, leaving consumers vulnerable to predatory financial practices. Rather than supporting tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy and corporations, Congress should prioritize policies that uplift working families, protect essential social safety nets, and address critical issues like climate change and access to healthcare and education. I urge you to oppose this destructive legislation and instead work towards a fair and responsible budget that serves the needs of all Americans, not just the privileged few.
