An Open Letter

To: Rep. Magaziner

From: A constituent in Providence, RI

February 26

Last night, the state of Kansas revoked every transgender person's driver's license. Today, H.R. 7661 “Stop the Sexualization of Children Act” seeks to go a step further nationwide. This bill, as proposed, currently would make it illegal for publicly funded schools to engage in any acts or provide any content to children under the age of 18 that includes “sexually explicit materials.” This bill, as written, defines “sexually oriented material” as any material that “involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism.” This bill seeks to label any material that discusses transgender people as sexually explicit. Transgender people are ordinary people, just like everyone else. Their mere existence being labeled as sexually explicit is dehumanizing and cruel; and making it a crime to discuss them in public schools does nothing to protect our children. For those reasons, I am asking you to please oppose H.R. 7661.
