I’m writing as a constituent to urge you to support the allocation of just $500,000 toward studying a high-speed rail corridor between New York City and Toronto — a project that could revolutionize travel in the Northeast and dramatically cut transit times from over 12 hours to just 3.5.
With New York State’s $254 billion budget, it is shocking that such a modest investment in transportation innovation is even up for debate. This funding would enable a Corridor ID study, the first essential step in bringing modern, fast, and climate-resilient infrastructure to one of the most traveled international corridors in North America.
Not only would this high-speed rail link foster stronger economic, academic, and cultural ties between the U.S. and Canada, but it would also reduce road congestion, cut emissions, and offer a viable alternative to air travel in an era of rising climate urgency.
I ask that you support this initiative and push NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and others to prioritize the long-term benefits this project offers. We cannot afford to fall behind while other regions and countries invest in modern rail infrastructure.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I look forward to seeing your leadership on this issue.
