The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is an independent federal agency that provides crucial funding and support for museums and libraries across the country. The proposed termination of IMLS grants by the Trump administration poses a grave threat to these vital cultural and educational institutions. Libraries, in particular, serve as community hubs, providing free access to books, resources, and internet services for millions of Americans – resources that are especially vital for underserved and low-income communities. Defunding IMLS would undermine the ability of libraries to serve their fundamental role of promoting literacy, education, and access to information for all. As a concerned citizen, I urge you to take action to protect IMLS funding and ensure that our nation's libraries and museums continue to receive the support they need to uplift and enrich our communities. The loss of IMLS would be a devastating blow to our shared cultural heritage and democratic values.
