Repeal Section 230 and Hold Major Platforms Accountable
I am writing to urge you to support legislation repealing Section 230 and to investigate Facebook for its role in restricting political speech. When a platform controls the primary channels through which tens of millions of Americans communicate, it functions as a de facto public square. It should not be allowed to silence users or manipulate the flow of political information without consequence.
Facebook’s decisions to ban users, suppress certain viewpoints, and curate political content have effectively limited my ability to speak and be heard. While private companies have rights, a platform with more than 80 million users operates at a scale where its choices directly shape public discourse. No single corporation should have unchecked power over what political speech is allowed or suppressed.
Section 230 currently shields platforms from accountability even when they engage in politically biased moderation or remove lawful speech. That protection has outlived its purpose. Congress must revisit and repeal Section 230 so that large platforms are held responsible when they restrict Americans’ ability to participate in political debate.
I am asking you to take action:
Repeal Section 230 so major platforms can be held accountable for suppressing lawful speech.
Investigate Facebook’s political content moderation practices, including whether its decisions have unfairly restricted public participation in political conversations.
Establish clear transparency and accountability standards for platforms that function as modern public forums.
Americans deserve a digital environment where political speech is not controlled by a handful of corporations. It is time for Congress to act.
