Time to team up and sink the HR1
To: Rep. Scholten
From: A constituent in Grand Rapids, MI
July 3, 2025
The Senate just passed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” by the slimmest of margins—with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. Now the House must decide whether to rubber stamp this catastrophic piece of legislation or reject it and protect the people you were elected to serve.
I urge you in the strongest possible terms: Vote NO and connect with others to do the same.
This bill is a moral and economic disaster. It slashes $1.2 trillion from Medicaid and SNAP, ripping healthcare and food off the table for tens of millions of Americans. It will cause nearly 12 million people to lose their health insurance, devastate rural hospitals, shutter labor and delivery units, and force pregnant people and elderly to drive hours for basic care. In short—it’s a death sentence for both physical and mental health for some of the most vulnerable.
Meanwhile, the wealthiest Americans are handed $4.5 trillion in tax cuts. Billionaires will keep getting richer while 5.4 million families lose food assistance. The cruelty is the point—and the math doesn’t lie. This bill will explode the deficit by $3.3 trillion.
It’s an existential threat to rural hospitals and our most trusted professions including nurses like myself and those seeking to join healthcare as student loans and research continues to be derailed.
This is not a budget. It’s a blueprint for cruelty, corruption, and collapse.
Don’t let other representatives turn a blind eye and empower Trump and Mike Johnson drag this country backward.
VOTE NO on the Senate reconciliation bill. Reject the cruelty. Protect your people and remind others what’s at stake.
