Vote No on the SAVE Act.

To: Rep. Messmer, Sen. Young, Sen. Banks

From: A verified voter in Mount Vernon, IN

March 18

As a constituent, I strongly urge you to vote no on the SAVE Act. This legislation will not prevent voter fraud because there is no evidence of widespread fraud to prevent. When Speaker Johnson was asked to provide a single example of voter fraud the SAVE Act would have stopped, he refused to answer. Even the conservative Wall Street Journal editorial board acknowledged that Trump's claims about endemic voter fraud "aren't backed by hard evidence." What this bill will do is disenfranchise millions of eligible voters, which is unconstitutional. The SAVE Act goes far beyond photo ID requirements to restrict mail-in voting and impose barriers that function as a modern poll tax, which is unconstitutional. Republicans have not proposed making it easier to obtain the required IDs, revealing the true intent behind this legislation. President Trump himself exposed the real motive when he promised Republican lawmakers that passing the SAVE Act would "guarantee the midterms" for the GOP. This is not about election security. This is about suppressing votes to win elections Republicans would otherwise lose because the policies and procedures are highly unpopular. The bill even risks overruling conservative-led states and those voters on all political leanings and have expanded absentee voting. Reject this transparent attempt to commandeer the electoral process from the states to the federal government, which is unconstitutional.
