Terminating the Department of Education would be a grave mistake that undermines equal access to quality education for all students. The Department plays a vital role in promoting equity, enforcing civil rights laws, and ensuring that every child receives a fair chance at academic success regardless of their background or circumstances. Dismantling it could exacerbate existing disparities, depriving underprivileged communities of essential resources and support systems that level the playing field. Instead of abolishing this critical agency, we should work to strengthen its ability to safeguard educational opportunities and uphold the principles of inclusion and non-discrimination upon which our nation's promise of equal opportunity rests. A strong, well-funded Department of Education is essential for realizing the American ideal of providing every student with the tools they need to reach their full potential.
