The Israeli airstrike on the residential building in Nuseirat, Gaza on October 31st, 2023 resulted in devastating loss of civilian life, including many children. According to investigations by Human Rights Watch, there appears to have been no military target, raising serious concerns that this attack violated the laws of war and constituted an apparent war crime. The tragic story of Eman Abusaeid's family, who lost 23 members including parents, siblings and 10 children in this strike, underscores the grave human cost. Given the gravity of these findings, I urge you to call for an independent investigation into this incident and other suspected violations during the Gaza conflict. U.S. military aid to Israel, which has exceeded $146 billion since 1949, must be scrutinized to ensure it is not enabling potential war crimes or disproportionate civilian harm. Taxpayer funds should be contingent on full accountability and adherence to international humanitarian law. The fundamental rights and dignity of Palestinian civilians demand no less.
