Impose sanctions on Israel and on the settlers carrying out violence in the West Bank. The United States provides billions in military aid each year, and that leverage must be used. Continuing to fund a government while its settlers destroy Palestinian homes and livelihoods without consequence is a policy choice, and it is the wrong one. Targeted sanctions are a proven tool. Freezing assets and revoking visas of individuals and entities responsible for settler violence sends a clear message that this conduct will not be subsidized by American taxpayers. Other allies have faced sanctions for far less. There is no principled reason to exempt Israel or the settlers from the same standards applied elsewhere.
