Reject Matt Gaetz: Justice Demands Accountability and Integrity

To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Hurst, TX

November 15

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the confirmation of Representative Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. His controversial record, questionable ethics, and inflammatory rhetoric make him unfit for this critical position. His appointment would be a devastating blow to the integrity of the Department of Justice and a betrayal of public trust. The Attorney General must be a person of unimpeachable integrity and moral character, someone who upholds the rule of law and defends the vulnerable without fear or favor. Representative Gaetz’s record, however, is rife with actions and allegations that suggest he lacks the qualifications, ethics, and impartiality required for this role. Gaetz’s alleged involvement in federal investigations related to sex trafficking casts a shadow over his fitness for public service. While he has not been formally charged, the nature of these allegations is deeply troubling, particularly for survivors of abuse and exploitation. His confirmation would send a dangerous message to victims—especially children—that their pain and suffering are secondary to political interests. Moreover, Gaetz’s decision to resign from Congress to avoid the release of the ethics report on him further underscores his lack of accountability. This is not the action of an honorable person, nor someone worthy of leading the Department of Justice. An Attorney General must be a model of transparency and accountability, not someone who sidesteps scrutiny to protect their image. Additionally, Gaetz’s history of politicized attacks on the Department of Justice and the FBI raises serious concerns about his willingness to prioritize loyalty over justice. His repeated claims that these institutions are “weaponized” undermine the public’s faith in the impartiality of law enforcement and suggest he would politicize the role of Attorney General to serve a partisan agenda. The Department of Justice plays a vital role in protecting vulnerable populations, including children and survivors of exploitation. To appoint someone with such a controversial record to lead this institution would erode public trust and damage the credibility of one of our nation’s most important agencies. I urge you to reject this nomination and advocate for a candidate with the integrity, qualifications, and independence necessary to restore trust in the Department of Justice and ensure the fair administration of justice. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I trust you will act in the best interests of our nation and stand up for the principles of justice and equality
