Support Senator Rick Scott’s BLAST Act to End the Revolving Door in Washington
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Dallas, TX
May 18
I am writing as a concerned citizen to urge you to support Senator Rick Scott’s bipartisan BLAST Act, which would permanently ban former Members of Congress from becoming lobbyists after leaving office.
For years, Americans across the political spectrum have watched politicians leave Washington only to cash in on their connections, insider knowledge, and influence. This revolving door between Congress and K Street has eroded trust in our institutions and reinforced the belief that public office is too often used as a stepping stone to personal enrichment rather than public service.
Conservatives have long stood for honest government, accountability, and the principle that elected officials should serve the people — not special interests. President Trump’s call to “drain the swamp” resonated with millions of Americans because people are tired of a political class that appears to profit from the very system it was elected to oversee.
Senator Scott is right to take leadership on this issue. Members of Congress should not be able to spend years building relationships and influence on the taxpayers’ dime, then immediately turn around and sell that access to corporations and lobbying firms. Public service should not become a pipeline to lucrative lobbying careers.
This bill represents a rare opportunity for genuine bipartisan reform that ordinary Americans overwhelmingly support. It would help restore confidence that lawmakers are making decisions based on the interests of their constituents rather than future job prospects.
I strongly encourage you to publicly support and vote in favor of the BLAST Act. Washington does not need more career insiders cashing in — it needs leaders willing to restore integrity and trust in government. And conservatives in Texas are watching to see if you agree and are working to drain the swamp.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
