I’m writing to object to false and misleading claims being made about CPS Energy and to oppose any proposal using these claims as a political tool against democratic cities like San Antonio. What is being presented as fact is not accurate, and the rhetoric appears designed to justify an agenda that benefits political and big-money interests rather than protecting Texans’ interests. CPS Energy is a municipal power provider, and the revenue it contributes through the city budget supports essential public services Texans rely on every day. It is misleading to characterize that revenue as improper or as a “slush fund.” City budgets and general revenue allocations are decided through local democratic processes, including the San Antonio City Council’s authority to determine how funds are allocated. I also oppose any effort to interfere with local governance or to weaken municipal models as punishment for cities that do not align with state political agendas. Texans deserve transparent, verifiable information—not political narratives that inflame the public and distract from real solutions. I urge you to correct the public record, stop using misleading claims to justify state interference in local control, and withdraw any proposal that targets democratic cities. Focus instead on policies that lower costs, improve reliability, and respect the rights of local communities to govern their essential services.
