Defend Military Integrity and Those Who Uphold It

To: Sen. Armstrong, Rep. Cole, Sen. Lankford

From: A constituent in Norman, OK

April 4

I am writing to you as an Oklahoman and as someone who has served this country, in a family where service spans generations. My parents served. My grandparents served. I understand firsthand what duty, chain of command, and allegiance to the Constitution actually mean—not as an abstract idea, but as a lived responsibility. That is exactly why the reported removal of respected military leaders under Pete Hegseth is so deeply troubling. In Oklahoma, with installations like Tinker Air Force Base and Fort Sill, military service is part of who we are. We raise our families around it. We build our communities around it. And we expect our leaders—civilian and military alike—to respect the principles that hold it together. If these generals were removed for refusing unlawful or inappropriate orders, then they were doing exactly what we train them to do. They were upholding the Constitution over politics. Punishing that is not leadership—it is a fundamental breakdown of the values that keep our military professional and apolitical. This is not routine. This is not acceptable. This is unprecedented in a way that should concern every American, especially those entrusted with oversight. You have a responsibility to act. I am asking you to: * Demand full transparency on the removal of these generals * Investigate whether any were dismissed for upholding lawful orders and constitutional duty * Publicly defend the integrity and independence of our military leadership If we begin removing leaders for doing the right thing, we are sending a message to every service member that integrity is optional and loyalty to politics matters more than loyalty to the Constitution. That is dangerous—for our military, and for our country. As someone who has worn the uniform, and as part of a family that has given generations of service, I expect better. Do not stay silent. Do your job. Defend the principles we swore to uphold.
