I am writing as your constituent in Pennsylvania to urge you to oppose the SAVE Act and to oppose the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in its current form, including its Iran war funding provisions. On the SAVE Act: The SAVE Act would require documentary proof of citizenship — such as a passport or certified birth certificate — to register to vote, and would largely eliminate online and mail voter registration. Noncitizen voting is already a federal crime and is already rare and actively enforced. What this bill would actually do is add a burdensome new paperwork requirement on top of a system that already works, and it would put voter registration out of reach for many eligible citizens, including married women who have changed their names, rural voters without easy access to documents, students, and low-income Pennsylvanians. The passport and documentation m requirements alone constitute a poll tax. I ask you to vote against the SAVE Act, and to oppose any attempt to attach it to unrelated must-pass legislation as a way of avoiding a clean, direct vote. On the NDAA and Iran war funding: I am also deeply concerned about the FY2027 NDAA, which authorizes a record $1.15 trillion in military spending and includes tens of billions of dollars tied to continued military operations against Iran. Congress, not the executive branch alone, holds the constitutional power to authorize war. I do not believe Congress has given clear, deliberate authorization for this conflict, and I do not think funding should continue to flow to it without a direct, transparent debate and vote on the war itself. I ask you to oppose the NDAA unless it includes real guardrails on further offensive operations against Iran and requires the administration to report honestly to Congress and the public on the war’s cost and impact. I also think joint military funding, advanced technological cooperation, and merged supply chains is inappropriate and subjects our military to the interests of a foreign nation. People are saying this treasonous. Bundling a voter-suppression bill and open-ended war funding into a single defense authorization bill denies the Senate — and the public — a clear, honest vote on either issue. I urge you to reject this approach and to insist that both matters be debated and voted on separately, on their own merits, and that you oppose both in their current forms, even if separately voted on.
