Protect Veterans Data Stop DOGE

To: Rep. Spartz, Sen. Young, Sen. Banks

From: A constituent in Fishers, IN

February 5

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you not only as a concerned citizen but also as a representative voice for our military veterans who have selflessly served this nation. I urge you to take a strong stand against the recent actions of Elon Musk and his Doge team, who have allegedly gained unauthorized access to the personal payment data of veterans receiving retirement and disability benefits. The privacy and security of our veterans' personal information should be of utmost importance. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a clear policy in place that grants access to sensitive data exclusively to VA employees and strictly for official business purposes. Any breach of this policy jeopardizes the trust that our veterans place in the system designed to protect them. It is unconscionable that individuals outside the VA, regardless of their status or influence, would be allowed to access this sensitive information without proper authorization. Military veterans often rely on their retirement and disability benefits for financial stability, particularly after the sacrifices they have made for our country. When their personal data is compromised, it not only endangers their financial security but also poses a significant risk of identity theft and fraud. The implications of unauthorized access to such sensitive information extend beyond the individual veteran; they can have ripple effects throughout families and communities. As a senator, you have the power and responsibility to advocate for the rights of your constituents, especially those who have served in harm's way. By speaking out against these unauthorized actions, you can send a clear message that privacy violations will not be tolerated, and that the integrity of the systems designed to protect our veterans is paramount. I implore you to take this matter seriously and to urge your colleagues to join you in demanding accountability from individuals and organizations that fail to respect the privacy rights of those who have served our nation. Our veterans deserve nothing less than full protection of their personal information, and it is our duty to ensure that their rights are upheld. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to your response and hope to see you take a strong stance on behalf of our veterans.
