I’m writing to urge you to oppose H.R. 1, the budget reconciliation bill, and any provisions that authorize the sale of our public lands or the use of it for oil, mining, timber production, or corporate use. Public lands should be protected and preserved, not destroyed by the fossil fuel industry or sold off to fund tax breaks for billionaires and corporations.
As I’ve continued to follow this issue, I am increasingly concerned about the Senate's ongoing review of the so-called "Big Beautiful Bill." If passed, it could make 258 million acres of public land across the western U.S. — including significant portions of California — eligible for sale.
As a Californian, I am particularly concerned about over 16 million acres of potentially eligible land—jeopardizing conservation areas, wildlife corridors, and landscapes central to our identity and future climate resilienceThe implications for our local landscapes, ecosystems, and communities are profound, and I want to ensure that my voice, along with others in the region, is heard before decisions are made.
The implications for our ecosystems and communities are profound. I urge you to take a stand for the environment, for future generations, and for the values we hold as Americans.
