Defend democracy, condemn January 6 pardons and violence
To: Rep. Mann
From: A constituent in Lawrence, KS
February 15, 2025
The recent pardon of over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol undermines the rule of law and sends a dangerous message condoning violence against democratic institutions. The rioters engaged in a seditious conspiracy to overturn the results of a free and fair election, injuring over 140 law enforcement officers in the process. Granting pardons to those who participated in this assault on American democracy is an unacceptable abuse of executive power. I urge you to speak out forcefully against these pardons and take action to hold those responsible for the January 6th attack fully accountable. The foundations of our republic rest on the peaceful transfer of power through free elections, and failure to uphold this principle represents an existential threat to American democracy. We must send an unequivocal message that political violence will never be tolerated. The future of our nation depends on defending the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
