To: Sen. Hawley, Rep. Wagner, Sen. Schmitt

Some things to include in the farm bill. 1) Incentives for farmers to switch to organic techniques to feed their crops and to protect them from pests. 2) Tax write offs for water purification , composting, equipment to make compost teas and equipment modifications to spread those teas on crops. Also tax write offs for use of cover crops Reasons why this is important. This is important for helping farmers increase the profitability of farming. Organic farming increases the nutritional density of their crops. Organic farming naturally increase yields and decreases the need for spray fertilizers pesticides and herbicides. Most importantly organic farming regenerate soils and improve soil conservation. Top soil lose is a critical issue that can only be reversed though organic farming. Two other huge benefits of organic farming are: 1) Improving the carbon sink capabilities of farm land to fight global warming. If this is consistently done farmers can qualify for international carbon credits. 2) organic farming increases farm lands ability to have deeper friable soil which can hold water like a sponge making fields more drought tolerant and decreasing irrigation needs to grow crops. I hope you will work to build in incentives organic farming in the farm bill.
